Genuine Beach Glass Jewelry
and Decorative Items
Designs by: Mary Beth Carlson

What is beach glass?
Whether from the numerous ship wrecks in the quickly tumultuous waters of Lake Erie or from someone thoughtlessly tossing trash into the water, these "gems" wash up on the beach and wait to be discovered. Beach glass, also known as sea glass or mermaids' tears, has been tumbled by many years of sand and surf giving it a smooth, frosted appearance. With the increased production of plastic and the improvement of our environment through recycling, beach glass "gems" are becoming harder and harder to find. Glass has been used to store products for centuries, making each piece of beach glass ageless and unique in it's own way.

Lake Erie is a great place to find beach glass. Because it is the shallowest of all of the great lakes, it can become very rough in a very short period of time. This adds to there being more shipwrecks in Lake Erie than any of the other great lakes. Erie also has a high Ph level, which helps to break down and smooth the glass.

The Jewelry
All jewelry is hand-crafted using sterling silver and genuine beach glass, pottery, and beach pebbles; most found on the shores of Lake Erie. The beach glass is used as it is found on the beach. It is not tumbled, smoothed, or polished in any way.

The Artwork
The artwork is created using the tiny and uniquely shaped pieces of beach glass and pottery. The artwork is triple-matted and framed in black glass. Each piece is one-of-a-kind.

Decorative Shirts
The shirts are a quality cotton/spandex (95/5), 7 ounce material embellished with beach glass. They are on an order only basis and can be decorated with any assortment of colors. The shirts are also machine wash and dry
